Abstract of the fifth installment of Spanish-American War claims, 1901.

Details claim against the United States for pay due officers and enlisted men of the Ohio National Guard for active volunteer service during the Spanish-American War. Includes company, total amount due, amount paid by the state of Ohio, and amount still due. This claim was made under the provisions of a congressional act approved on March 3, 1899, to reimburse states for costs incurred while raising and equipping volunteers for the Spanish-American War.

When Mexican and Civil War soldiers mustered out of service, many regiments turned their flags over to the state of Ohio. The General Assembly authorized the purchase of glass cases to display battle flags in the Statehouse.
